Death is a village in Finland. Balloon sellers have reappeared on the streets of Kabul. And the January sky that hangs above "the edges of the Black Sea" looks cold and exquisite. Welcome to Lens Culture, a richly designed online magazine of contemporary photography from around the world. Easily navigable and well-written, this site couldn't be better. We watched as two blonde cousins grew up in the northeast U.S., caught sight of a Frenchwoman's portraits of thirst as she hiked across her country, examined the water-logged remains of books littering the streets of a post-Katrina New Orleans, and lingered over the terrible beauty of animals killed by passing cars. Lens Culture describes itself as "photography and shared territories." We will cross its borders anytime, even if it leads us to a lively Finnish hamlet named for loss.
