Sometimes the world is full of things that get you down. What better time to close the blinds, kick up your feet, and make it all just a little crazier? This nonsensically animated head and its bizarre actions call to mind the goofy cartoon film "Yellow Submarine." The head emits horse whinnies, elephant trumpets, duck quacks, human laughs, robot beeps, and grunts like some animal we haven't yet identified. It has a vast wardrobe of noses, notably an exploding cannon and a propeller. It can swallow its eye, run a projector, and grow an arm out of its ear. But you have to figure out how to make it all work.

Can you make the head:

  • Grow hair?
  • Breathe fire?
  • Cry?
  • Grow an elephant trunk?
  • Run?

We dig Digg as much as the next web addict, but our favorite thing to do on the link-luscious site is sneak through the doors of DiggLabs. As the site acknowledges, stuff now comes in to the user-empowered community so fast that stories often whip down the page and back into the unknown before most people catch them. The Labs attempts to address this issue by devising "a broader (and deeper) view" of all this frantic activity. And it does it in the most graphically arresting ways: Arc, the newest app, presents stories in ever-widening circles of popularity; Big Spy pops links down the page, enlarging titles as they gain votes; Swarm treats links like tadpoles under a microscope—each small circle wiggles and nudges about. Our vote for best visual feasting, though, goes to Stack, which plays like a news version of Tetris. "Diggers fall from above and stack up on popular stories." Watch out for the vertigo.

DIY cosmetic surgery? Yes, now you can perform rhinoplasty on yourself without shedding a drop of blood or suffering through a long recovery period. Of course, you'll want to practice some cyber enhancements on someone else's mug before tackling your own facial challenges. Shorten the nose, create dreamy bedroom eyes, or give the mouth a jaunty upward angle. Then complete the makeover with a new hairstyle, cat's eye glasses, or a discreet nose ring. Need some inspiration? Check out some of the favorites by amateur surgeons and stylists, including this unfortunate guy and this victim of morphing. It takes a little experimenting to get the hang of it, but the results are undoubtedly worth it.

Ever thought about a career as a police sketch artist? Through the wonders of Flash, you now have a chance to live out that dream job. Come ply your artistic abilities and create composite sketches worthy of a "wanted" poster. Choose from over 60 hairstyles, 50 mouths, and 30 noses and create a realistic face. Then add accessories (moustaches, beards, and glasses) and resize facial features to make the perfect mug. When you're done, you can "save face" and let others check out your creation. With tens of thousands of faces saved, you're sure to find at least one that looks familiar.

Everybody loves a flashy web site, right? Wrong! In careless hands, Macromedia's Flash technology can render a site almost unusable for the average web surfer. This "First aid manual for usable Flash sites" shows designers how to create sites that are both cool to view and easy to use. Through detailed tutorials, downloadable source files, and bad-Flash case studies, they demonstrate how to marry form with function online. Even if you're not a web designer, you can appreciate how this advice might apply to Flash sites you've struggled to navigate. Pass the link along, and maybe someday Flash sites will be 100% good.
